More than 50 people attended the first Water Hygiene Masterclass organised by Armitage Shanks and Pall Medical.
The event, held at Warwick University, featured speakers from Public Health England, University Hospital Birmingham, Kings Mill NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute for Hygiene and Public Health, Bonn.
It was an opportunity for professionals such as microbiologists, water engineers and facility managers to learn and discuss current updates on in-premise water microbiology and hygiene.
These included new findings published on the emergence of waterborne infections, multi-drug resistant microorganisms and their survival and paths of transmission.
Building owners and managers are expected to be compliant with these legal and technical requirements and deliver safe water to patients and other consumers at the point of use.
Tony Rheinberg, Senior Sector Marketing Manager for Ideal Standard, one of the organisers of the event, said: “This was a very successful and dynamic day, offering excellent opportunities to engage with water hygiene professionals and maintain Armitage Shanks’ position as the leading brass and sanitaryware provider to the health sector.
“The subjects discussed on the day included contamination of taps, infection from basin wastes and splashing, which are all relevant to our products and innovations.
“One real bonus was that Armitage Shanks products were regularly mentioned in successful research studies that were quoted by the speakers.”
The masterclass follows on from a round table discussion in May and the publication of the first Looking Deeper water management journal, both of which were supported by Armitage Shanks.
