How can the drive to net zero in the NHS be compatible with safe water delivery?

That was the big question under discussion at the latest Armitage Shanks Water Safety Experts Forum yesterday.
Meeting at our London Design & Specification Centre, the panel covered issues such as the impact of reducing water temperatures – in order to reduce carbon emissions – on water-borne pathogens.
They also considered whether the potential for use of water additives and water chemical treatments were either practical or desirable.
With a panel drawn from areas including nursing, facilities management and consulting, the forum is one of the ways of keeping Armitage Shanks at the forefront of healthcare sanitaryware and brassware technology, especially in relation to infection prevention and control.

Non-residential Marketing Manager Anil Madan, who organises the forum, said: “The questions the panel discussed are really important in healthcare right now as organisations like the NHS are having to think about how they can achieve net zero carbon emissions without reducing the quality of patient care.
“There was some lively debate that shows just how difficult it’s going to be to reconcile the priorities of high quality care and lowering emissions to zero, and I’m sure it’s a conversation we’ll keep coming back to over the coming years.”

A full report on the forum will be published in the next edition of the Looking Deeper journal in September. Register for your copy via the link below.
