Sector Marketing Executive Ashley Smith has completed a 10-day trip to Malawi to support the charity efforts of one of our housebuilder customers.
He was part of a group of 16 who volunteered to build homes for three families as part of Edinburgh-based Miller Homes’ work with Habitat for Humanity in Gwengwe village in the Salima district of the south east African country.
These included three of the company’s senior team and 13 others from their construction partners.
Ash said: “This is an experience that I will never forget and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity.
“I am proud to say that we completed the goal of building three houses, despite a day’s build being cancelled due to political demonstrations.
“These three houses are going to provide three families with the home they need to survive without having the worry of leaks and repair costs.
“The work that Habitat for Humanity are doing is nothing less than life changing for those families that they are helping.”
Miller Homes have worked with Habitat for Humanity on a number of projects over several years. The charity itself has enabled the construction of more than 1.3 million homes for poor and vulnerable people since 1976.
Below are some photos from the trip. The completed home is from a previous Habitat for Humanity project.
