This week we say hello to Yiota, who will be based at our new Design and Specification Centre in London.

Name: Yiota Toumba
Job title: Senior Designer

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I was born and have always lived in south east London, but as you can tell from my very different name, my heritage is Greek Cypriot. I got married about six months ago and would definitely say I am a very family orientated person. I turn 30 this year.

Describe your job to a five-year-old:
I design bathrooms, from choosing the basins and taps, to the tiles and colours that are put on the walls

What do you like most about your job?
I love how you can play with the creativity of how a bathroom can look, bathrooms are known to be a very functional space, but it is my job to create a space that is both functional and beautiful.

How did you get here?
I studied Architecture undergrad at university, and from there I gained experience in many areas of design; graphic design, product design, marketing design and decided it was more interiors I wanted to get involved in. Bathroom design was my first opportunity to design interiors.

What motivates you?
I guess my family (as cheesy as that sounds!) We are all very good at encouraging and supporting each other in our ventures.

If you could swap jobs with anyone, who would it be?
George Clarke, George Clarke’s amazing spaces or Kevin McCloud, Grand Designs – imagine travelling the world and being able to visit all the most beautifully designed spaces in the world.

Your favourite song lyric or line from a film?
I love Friends, but there are too many moments to choose from. The whole ‘PIVOT’ scene is an ultimate favourite (if you know, you know).

Your favourite app?
Pinterest. I love the endless inspirational images you can find

Biggest facepalm moment at work?
Realising I have planned for a shower waste to be directly on top of a floor joist. Well, realising too late!
