The latest Water Safety Forum round table brought together a selection of healthcare experts to discuss the issues of bacterial growth in wastes, traps and drains.
Attendees were drawn from the NHS, the Health and Safety Executive, Public Health England and other organisations, and included academics, facilities engineers and microbiologists.
Held at our London Design and Specification Centre, the forum was organised as part of our ambition for Armitage Shanks to be seen as a thought leader in the healthcare washrooms sector.
One attendee called the discussions “very interesting and illuminating” while another commented on the insight offered by speaking directly with people working in the NHS.
Senior Sector Marketing Manager Tony Rheinberg said: “Wastes are an area we don’t normally think about but they can be a harbour for bacteria growth which, if released, can infect vulnerable patients.
“These days there are even more concerns as some bacteria are now resistant to antibiotics, making them very dangerous indeed.”
He added: “The forum was a great success and included seven experts from across the NHS UK and Scotland.
“The discussions included conversations about what could be done to communicate the importance of hand washing, using the correct basin for the correct use and what potential product innovations there could be to reduce the danger.”
