Ideal Standard has joined the UN Global Compact, a voluntary initiative which aims to harness the power of business to make the world a better place.
It means we are committed to helping the UN achieve 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), including “no poverty”, “zero hunger”, “gender equality”, “clean water and sanitation” and “responsible consumption and production”.
There are now over 17,000 members in 177 countries, typically large multinational companies, who have signed up so far.

Chris Barrett, Ideal Standard International’s Vice President – ESG, said: “The concept is that businesses, like nation states, will adopt them into their operating principles and look at how they can incorporate those 17 SDGs into their day-to-day work.
“Rather than just put it on national governments to come up with plans for how they achieve it, there’s also companies like us that can play our part.
“There’s really no higher commitment that we can make when it comes to working towards a better world for future generations. We want to hold ourselves to those high standards.”

As part of joining the compact, we are making a series of commitments, such as zero waste to landfill by 2030, in support of the SDGs.
We will report on progress against these targets every year, with this being publicly visible on the UN Global Compact website.

Chris added: “Anyone with access to the internet can look on the website and see how we are doing against that.
“This also gives us access to 17,000 companies to understand best practice and help to make progress in that way.
“It holds us accountable to the UN and it gives all our employees, customers and stakeholders in our business a very clear understanding of what we are committed to.”
