The son of Kiln Engineering Leader Simon Horne is doing a sponsored silence at school today (Friday, December 1) to raise money for the hospital ward where his little sister is being treated for leukaemia.

Nine-year-old Freddie and his close friends decided to raise money for the Oncology Ward at the Royal Stoke Hospital where his younger sister, Simon’s four-year-old daughter, Mabel, is receiving treatment for her recently diagnosed Leukaemia.

A GoFundMe page has already raised nearly £4,000 against a target of £250. All funds raised will be donated to the ward to help improve the facilities for the children who are treated there.

Simon said: “Fred absolutely adores his little sister and he has been the most loving and caring big brother throughout her life and even more so now. He misses her so much when she is in hospital.
“She has just come out after an 11-day stay following an infection and during this time Fred has planned this sponsored silence all by himself with his friends at school, creating posters to put up around the school and encouraging people to support him.

“Fred has already raised some money at school through his own initiative, but I wanted to set this up to give him a boost and spread the word because he is so proud of how much he has raised already and I know it will make his day to support this cause even more, all for the love of his little sister, Mabel.
“Please donate if you can. Even £1 will help bump up his final donation amount that he can give to the hospital to show how grateful we all are for the care and support we receive every week.”
