Name: Rebecca Casey
Job title: Account Administrator, based in Hull
Tell us a bit about yourself: I wouldn’t say that I feel old, but I am creeping up to a special birthday with a zero in it this year. I am married to Steve and we have two daughters (six and eight) who keep us very much on our toes. I have only lived in Hull for two and a half years. Me and my family relocated here from Cambridge as my husband is originally from here and we have always thought about making the move. I love spending time with my family and I love challenges. We don’t have any pets at present but are seriously contemplating getting a dog to join our little family (watch this space). I love travelling and my favourite place to visit is Australia as my brother lives there, so I have been there a couple of times and plan to visit again very soon.
Describe your job to a five-year-old: I take phone calls from people who want to buy things for their bathrooms (baths, basins, toilets and taps) and make sure that they get them on time and in one piece.
What do you like most about your job? Everyone at Ideal Standard have been so welcoming since I started two weeks ago and I have settled in really quickly thanks to them. And I love the fact that Ideal Standard is a huge organisation with plenty of career opportunities.
How did you get here? Well, where to start? I started my working life as a travel agent for Thomas Cook and loved it. However, after four or so years I made the move to Lloyds TSB bank to become a cashier and then I got promoted to a personal account manager. From there, I wanted to further my career of helping people and that is when I joined the Metropolitan Police as a Police Constable/Detective Constable. I completed nearly 12 years in the police dealing with plenty of different scenarios, but due to family commitments and commuting issues, I decided that it was time to focus on my family and spend more time at home. I was offered a job within the AXA insurance call centre and worked as a claims negotiator for just over a year before I moved up to Hull. Once we had moved here and I had settled the children into their new schools, I got a job with East Riding of Yorkshire Council as a Youth and Family Support Worker. I loved the job but unfortunately it was only a fixed term 18 month contract. I then went to work for a friend as an Account Administrator for his family run company until I found another permanent full time job. Luckily for me, Ideal Standard advertised my job and I got it.
What motivates you? My family motivates me to be the best I can be. I love travelling and this is also a massive part of my motivation. The most important thing to me is my family, our friends and our health and happiness.
If you could swap jobs with anyone, who would it be? I would like to be a beach tester all around the world (come on… who wouldn’t?)
Your favourite song lyric or line from a film: ‘If the sun refuses to shine, I would still be loving you. When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me’ – Thank you by Led Zeppelin.
Your favourite app? My favourite app would have to be ‘On The Beach’… I am constantly looking for amazing deals on holidays for me, my family and even my friends (it’s the travel agent coming out in me).
Biggest facepalm moment at work? Possibly the worst day in the office for me was when I had worked 30hrs straight when the bombings happened in London back in 2005 and I fell asleep in the debrief before home time (I wasn’t the only one and they were very understanding.. zzzzz)
