Name: Joe Munday
Job title: Specification Manager – South East

Tell us a bit about yourself
I live with my other half, Annie (my high school sweetheart!), having bought a flat in Bromley last year. Most days now involve doing up the rooms and general DIY as it wasn’t in the best of nick when we bought it. This has been an enjoyable start to proper ‘adulthood’… some days I wouldn’t mind going back to being a student! Next steps are inevitably marriage but for now getting a dog will be the next challenge.
Aside from this I am an avid sports person, playing football two or three times a week in a Saturday 11 a-side team and five-a-side as well as doing a lot of endurance type events like tough mudder, national peak walks to adrenaline activities like bungee jumping. My biggest interest aside from sports would be cooking. I really enjoy making different recipes and would love to open a food truck like in the film Chef.

Describe your job to a five-year-old
I put toilets in brand new houses!

What do you like most about your job?
Dealing with smaller developers where we can be involved a lot more with the design and specification. The developers that are family-run are the more enjoyable ones as it’s more personal.

How did you get here?
I managed to get a year’s internship for a ‘Junior Interior Designer’ role at our old London showroom, the Bath Room. This was part of my four-year BSc Product Design sandwich course at Brighton University. After completing this I returned to university to finish my course and was then offered a full-time role back at the showroom, where I worked for two years as Interior Designer before moving across to a sales role. This was initially covering for Nicola Pye in London during her maternity leave for seven months and then onto to my current role as Specification Manager in the South East.

What motivates you?
I am at an early stage of my career so for me my main motivation is my own development; this is getting involved with everything I can and pushing myself in roles that I may not have any experience in so I can learn and go on from there.

If you could swap jobs with anyone, who would it be?
Nick Knowles – what is better than DIY SOS? And the bloke can sing.

Your favourite song lyric or line from a film
“Bye bye George, see you next Thursday” Father of the Bride 2 when George takes two strong sleeping pills. The delivery is perfect.

Your favourite app?
I try to keep off my phone as much as possible but I always go back to BBC Sport to get my fix on every sport going.

Biggest facepalm moment at work?
I would say it was during a presentation to several CLT members at the old showroom, where we were outlining the future marketing plan for Sottini. A question was asked about how often we are involved in projects that are in the north to which my response was “we get a fair few, quite a few from Birmingham as well”. Now I know Birmingham isn’t ‘north’ but to me, as a southerner, anything above Watford is. The people in the room did find it funny and didn’t hesitate to take the mick out of me for it!
