An episode of the BBC’s popular DIY SOS show which was filmed near Hull and features our products has finally been scheduled for broadcast.
The programme, which follows a nine-day build in Hessle, which borders onto Hull, will go out on BBC 1 on Wednesday 3 April at 9pm.
The DIY SOS “Big Build” was carried out by presenter Nick Knowles and his team of Billy, Mark, Chris and Jules, supported by an army of tradespeople who gave their time for free.
Their challenge was to improve accessibility for the Hudson family who were already coping with dad Darren losing the use of his legs through spinal injury when mum Sarah suddenly died on Boxing Day 2017.
Darren, a roofer, had previously volunteered on the DIY SOS Hull build in 2015, for which Ideal Standard products were also donated.
He is dad to Harvey (14), step-dad to Mike (24) and adopted dad of Oliver (17), who is severely disabled and with whom Darren was sharing a bedroom.
The DIY SOS project aimed to give the home a makeover but also to improve accessibility for Darren and Oliver.
Products we provided included a Contour 21 toilet, Concept Freedom washbasin and Tempo tap, as well as grab rails, shower and rise and fall basin.
Tradespeople and companies who donated time and materials were invited to the emotional “big reveal” where Darren and the children got their first glimpse of their new home.
