A major team effort has secured a £747,000 order to supply sanitaryware, fittings and stainless steel products for the major transformation of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), one of the UK’s significant healthcare construction projects.
The Hospitals Transformation Programme is designed to reshape acute healthcare provision across Shrewsbury and Telford, creating a more modern, efficient and people-centred environment for patients and staff.
The 30,000 sq m project includes the refurbishment, remodelling and extension of the existing emergency department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, alongside the construction of a new hospital facility.
Once complete, Royal Shrewsbury will become the centre for critical care, emergency department and women and children’s services, while Princess Royal Hospital in Telford will focus on planned care.
The new hospital is scheduled to open in 2028, with Armitage Shanks supplying a comprehensive range of products across the project, including Contour 21+ ceramics, Conceala 3 concealed cisterns, Markwik 21+ fittings, Contour 21 shower valves and stainless steel products.
The project is being delivered by Integrated Health Projects (IHP), the joint venture between VINCI Building and Sir Robert McAlpine, with Dalkia as installer and Neville Lumb supplying the products through the merchant channel.
Securing the order was a significant achievement for our business, requiring close collaboration between our teams and with its external partners.
Detailed product take-offs, technical support, regulatory documentation, estimating and order fulfilment all played an important role in bringing the project together.
Particular attention was required around the exacting requirements of Regulation 4, with Michelle Andrews and Sue O’Reilly supporting with product information and documentation, alongside Product Manager Jeff Williams.
Colleagues in the trade channel, including Mike Klodinzki and Alex Hooley, worked closely with the merchant to keep the project moving, while Sharon Purshouse in order fulfilment provided ongoing oversight of orders as they were placed and entered onto the system.
The project also marked a significant milestone for Specification Manager Brian Coyne, who retired from our business in March. SaTH was the largest healthcare project he had worked on and scheduled during his career with us.

“It was also the largest healthcare project Brian had worked on during his career with us, so it was a particularly fitting project for him to work on before his retirement.
“At the same time, Michelle, Sue, Jeff, Mike, Alex and Sharon all made important contributions, and the wider non-residential, estimating and fulfilment teams worked incredibly hard behind the scenes.
