Name: Dominic Walton
Job title: Aftersales Non-Residential & Ireland Team Leader
Tell us a bit about yourself
I have four younger brothers, and regularly get the pains and joys that come with being the oldest sibling. I have recently bought a house and moved in with my girlfriend Daisy and our rescue French bulldog Connie. In terms of interests, I like travelling and have recently been to New York, Reykjavik and Amsterdam. I love going to the gym and watching Hull City, even when they lose 5-1!
Describe your job to a five-year-old
I teach other adults about toilets.
What do you like most about your job?
The thing I like most about my job is the opportunity to help people and work as a part of the full aftersales team. We always strive to help and challenge each other as a team, which makes it a really enjoyable team to be a part of!
How did you get here?
My career path started in retail and hospitality management, working alongside my university course, which then developed into a career in retail management, leading up to my prior role at Marks and Spencer.
I then decided I wanted a change in career direction and the opportunity to learn and develop myself further, so I came to Ideal Standard as a customer care coordinator and enjoyed my time in the role. Following my first full year at the company just this month, I have come into my new role as aftersales non-residential and Ireland team leader and I feel ready for the challenges ahead!
What motivates you?
My main motivation is the opportunity we have in Customer Care to help people, as well as challenging myself and the whole aftersales team to deliver the best service possible.
If you could swap jobs with anyone, who would it be?
If I could swap jobs with anyone, it would be the team from Car Throttle, which is a Top Gear-esque YouTube channel who travel Europe in old BMW cars, which sounds like a great job to me.
Your favourite song lyric or line from a film
‘If you wish to be the King of the Jungle, it’s not enough to act like a King. You must be the King. And there can be no doubt. Because doubt causes chaos and one’s own demise’ – Michael Pearson – (Film – The Gentleman, 2019)
Your favourite app?
My favourite app would have to be TikTok, the algorithm has me gripped with boxing, MMA, football and funny videos.
Biggest facepalm moment at work?
My car breaking down on the way in to work, in one of my many recent cars (five over the last year). As my colleague Paddy would say, ‘You’re in a different car again! How long will this one last?’
