Training guides intended for new starters are getting an excellent reaction – from long-standing colleagues too.
The suite of guides is being created to help people develop their knowledge of our business and sector, using simple terms and avoiding complex terminology and acronyms.
Modules have been completed for Bathing, Furniture, Plumbing Systems, Domestic Sanitary Ware, Domestic Fittings and Showering, with those covering Commercial Sanitary Ware and Commercial Fittings now in development.
In the longer term, a module on all the various legislation that we work to, such as BREEAM for sustainability and Doc M for accessibility, is also planned.
The guides give a simple explanation of manufacturing processes and materials, and a description of each product type by name, giving the abbreviated titles that will be seen by internal system users.
They also cover basic installation guidance, industry terminology, frequently asked questions and any relevant legislation.

Product Sales Trainer Chris Pearson, who is developing the guides, said: “We are getting a really good reaction, with a lot of people saying how good they are.
“The original intention was easing people into the industry and the business because a lot of new starters were saying it was information overload at he beginning.
“I wanted to take it back to grass roots and the guides are intended to be very straightforward and simple in their language.”
He added: “The feedback, not only from new starters but also from people who are well-established colleagues, is that they have really given them insight into the business.
“Also, they were intended for the UK market but I had a message from one of the procurement guys in Brussels who said they were great and asked if I had any more.”

The guides are intended for both internal upskilling and new starter inductions, with tests to gauge how well the users have understood the content.
