Name: Sharan Mohiki
Job title: HR Business Partner Support

Tell us a bit about yourself
A bit about myself, hmmm… originally born and bred in Coventry I am one of four girls. Having moved to different towns and cities because of jobs in the past, my husband and I decided on a final location to settle. We have a daughter who is now 20 months old and continues to scare our cat named Bronx! Having been born into a Sikh family, culture is a huge part of our lives and my family is very important to me. I enjoy cycling with my husband whether road or mountain biking and playing squash, although I haven’t done any for a while now, and also enjoy the occasional cake baking!

Describe your job to a five-year-old
I help people do the best they can in their jobs and make sure they understand what they need to do the right way so it’s fair and equal and people enjoy being at work.

What do you like most about your job?
The people that I work with. I have only been at Ideal Standard for a week and already feel part of the team. Everyone has been very welcoming and it’s been a great introduction to the business.

How did you get here?
Whilst studying for my Human Resource Management degree, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to work at Cummins Turbo Technologies in Huddersfield, giving me the insight into HR in the workplace. After graduating, I started working for the West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust covering maternity leave as a HR Administrator. Not long after, my husband got a new job close to Stoke-on-Trent, so I ended up in a HR role at North Staffordshire Hospital working for a facilities management company called Sodexo. Due to relocation again, I moved to the HR Team at the Argos Distribution Centre in Lutterworth and then was fortunate to get the opportunity at a national footwear retailer called Shuropody. Having left there last week after five years, I’m really excited about the difference and contribution I can make at Ideal Standard and most importantly having the right people around me to support that.

What motivates you?
Having a really good team around me to work with and wanting to deliver the best we can together.

If you could swap jobs with anyone, who would it be?
I’ve never really thought about wanting to do someone else’s job as I love what I do and HR, but I do remember when I was little I wanted to be a baker and then a primary school teacher.

Your favourite song lyric or line from a film?
Oooooo this is a difficult one, I don’t really have a favourite one that comes to mind.

Your favourite app?
At the moment probably Instagram and WhatsApp.

Biggest facepalm moment at work?
Best forgotten! Haha.
