Strong relationships with the Republic of Ireland government means Ideal Standard products will be used in a major project to help house Ukrainian refugees.
The government has identified eight sites on which 500 modular homes could be built initially to house 2,000 people who have fled the country.
Officials have turned to the country’s growing modular construction industry as it needs to move quickly to provide housing for 3,400 who can only stay in hotels until the holiday season next summer.
Ideal Standard already has excellent links with leading developers in the sector, delivering on a number of large scale apartment developments over the past two years.
Specification Manager Triona McHugh and Residential Manager Ronan Mythen put forward a proposal to the main contractor Sisk, the architect Coady Partnership and the client, the Office of Public Works, which has been accepted and ordered.
Ronan said: “This is a special type of win for Ideal Standard within the Irish business, and a fantastic joined-up effort from both our specification and residential teams.
“Not only are we aiding a very important and serious issue, but it shows the key relations that we have in specification through our contract partners.”
The initial number of modular units will be 500, currently in production, to be supplied in the first quarter of 2023. In total, approximately 1,500 modular homes could be manufactured over the next 12 to 18 months.
The overall value to the business for the first lot of 500 units is in the region of €350,000 (£301,000)
Channel Director Gerard Crane said: “This has been another exemplary effort from our external team proving that our ‘one team’ approach really works, and when non-res joins forces with res it provides such successes like this.”
